Happy Ateneo Friends

What a way to end the year 2010 for Ateneo than a 2nd win at the Philippine Collegiate Champions League over their worthy opponents, Adamson. But oh well, the UAAP teams dominated the PCCL again for the 8th straight year i guess. But in the end, the Blue Eagles are declared the one. The one true champion & the one king of Philippine College Basketball. But for the entire year, the Blue Eagles surpass a roller-coaster ride for the 3rd UAAP Tittle & the 2nd PCCL tittle. Yes, in the 73rd Season of the UAAP, hosted by Ateneo's 'Major-Major' headache, La Salle, why i said that? Because the Green Archers are always a threat for the Blue Eagles. We still don't know who is more dominant among these 2 foes who battled out against each other from their NCAA years until now in the UAAP. A 10-4 record is a far cry from the 2 13-1 records since they started to turn the UAAP into their aerial base for 2-3 years, but this year, the kids of Katipunan Avenue proved again to never under-estimate the heart of a champion. Came the final 4 & the finals, it looks like Ateneo is on it's way to history, a history they haven't done for a long time.

In other words, the Blue Eagles surpass a crazy UAAP Season 73, but who cannot forget the 2nd game of the finals where of course, the hero of the game, Ryan Buenafe aimed the mystical, overdriven, furious (or put any Super Sentai or Power Rangers-related good puns) 3-pointer before the 20-second mark of the final quarter. As the ball enters the ring, Ryan flashed his trademark swag by showing the Ateneo name of his jersey, the Ateneo Gallery of the Araneta Coliseum during that game jumps & screams for happiness as the former Rookie Of The Year turned Finals MVP become the hero of the game. (Of course, for Ryan, he got some hugs from his team-mates including his BFF/Partner-in-crime Nico & a kiss-in-the-cheek from Bacon. Please, don't think that Bacon just came out from the closet.) As the final buzzer sounded, it was Ateneo who created history. For the 3rd year in a row, Ateneo turned the UAAP into their aerial base again. A few days after the game, there's the traditional championship bonfire, wow, that was a good night then for the Ateneo kids.
Now, at the PCCL, it looks like this will be an hats-off moment for Eric & Jumbo as they will play for the last time in an Ateneo Jersey, facing opponents like Lyceum, Mapua & University of Cebu was surely like a crazy-roller-coaster, walk-in-the-park, not-a-piece-of-cake set of games before they face off Adamson. During the game one of the finals, the Falcons were surely lucky. But on the last 2 games, they fall on a Blue Eagle trap that was certified Ateneo-made like last year where Ateneo faced their unexpected opponent in FEU during last year's PCCL. But in the end, the Blue Eagles retain the throne as the one true champion for the 2nd year in a row. I salute Eric Salamat & Jason 'Jumbo' Escueta for a job well done for this year. But somehow, i will surely miss how Eric Salamat salutes the Ateneo Gallery after he does a wonderful shot every game. The question is, who will continue it? Let's wait for the next UAAP games came July of 2011.
As Eric Salamat took the Team Captain position of Jai Reyes for the Blue Eagles this year, the Blue Eagles didn't expect that they aimed for history. (Hmm, it looks like the quote i heard from Adam Park in PR Turbo ep. 3 is a Blue Eagle-worthy quote. Eric didn't expect that they aimed for history, for Nico, he didn't expect he will taste his first MVP award being in the Hail Mary Squad. & for us Ateneo fans, we didn't expect that Ryan's Turbo-powered 3 pointer is a shot for history.) Well, let's enjoy watching the replays of Ateneo's past games in the UAAP & the PCCL on the TV or You Tube before this year ends. Let's end this year by screaming 'ONE BIG FIGHT!' to celebrate the wonderful 2010 for the kids of Katipunan Avenue.
